Vase with Poppies

I had started this piece before we moved into our new home. It was stored in a drawer in my new studio, waiting patiently for me to finish it. I love poppies and have made several quilts with them. Below are a couple photos taken on my recent NAM tour of Europe.
I finished this and took it to the Noyes Art Gallery in Lincoln for display and sale. Low and behold, my cousin and his wife stopped by and purchased it. Had I know they were interested, I might have been able to give them a deal! If you are able to look closely, you can see that I added a 3rd dimension to the petals of the flowers. I really like that direction that my quilts have taken lately.

My Perkins County quilt

Nebraska Counties Quilt Project
for the new building at the State Fair Grounds in Grand Island
“Perkins Pillars”
The quilt block represents the agricultural pillars of Perkins County - wheat and corn. Also important to our county are cattle and ethanol production. These last two pillars are closely associated to corn so the steer head is formed from the corn husks and the ethanol is represented as a drip from the corn leaf.
The techniques used in the quilt making process are raw edge applique, quilted mosaic, thread painting and free motion stippling.
My signature is a buffalo stitched in the background of the quilt.

Sunflower, Petite

This quilted mosaic applique was just recently part of a show at the Noyes Art Gallery in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Broiderie Perse.
The first series of quilts show a technique called broiderie perse. It is characterized by cutting apart printed fabric designs, such as flowers, and re-appliqueing it into another arrangement. The pieces are then thread painted and embellished.
The next four quilts are made from the same fabrics.
