I am finally able to say I have finished the pieces for my show next month at the Noyes Art Gallery in Lincoln. What follows in the blog are some photos and comments about the pieces. Each of the pieces can be used in the home or are a representation of a home. Several pieces were inspired by places I have seen while traveling.
I have always loved the Castle de Chillon on Lake Geneva in Switzerland. This raw edge applique is a representation of a portion of the castle. The frame came from a vintage mirror that I found at a used furniture store in a nearby town.
This quilted mosaic shows a row of homes in
Rothenburg, Germany. I love the colors of the homes in various parts of Europe. This vintage vanity stool was also found at the second hand furniture store.

This third piece of vintage furniture - a piano bench - inspired this "Summer Serenade". The flower that is appliqued and painted is the fireweed that lives naturally in Alaska, a place I visited with Steve and two friends, Bill and Kathy Howard, celebrating our 40th anniversaries. The flower blooms all summer and when it is done, summer is over. Because it was a piano bench, I felt the title needed to be a musical term.
This third "home" quilted mosaic piece depicts a cliff dwelling near Cottonwood, Arizona. It is from
a photo that I took when visiting the site. It is a beautiful secluded area off of I-17 North of Phoenix. So you can see the inspiration for the piece I have included the actual photo.

This cup of coffee was one that I had in Windsor, Great Britain this summer. I used the image to create three pieces for the show. Two are parody pieces, with the titles associated with familiar phrases. The pillow pattern was associated with a quilt pattern I am using in my quilt guild.
This pillow is entitled "Latte with a Twist". I am creating a quilt using the pattern "9-patch with a Twist" so thought it would be fun to do something associated with that theme.
This is a quilted distortion - using three prints of the same design. If you look carefully you can see how I used three of each strip. The title of this piece is "Tall Latte" - something I love to drink.
This quilted distortion is titled "Morning Stretch" using the same latte image as in the other two pieces.
The slideshow that follows shows something new for me, coiled quilted pots. I really had a lot of fun making them and coming up with appropriate titles. One of them also contains a pair of hand knit wool socks - something you might wear on a cold winter's night to relax at home - at least that's what I like to do.
This quilt is the first traditional pieced quilt I have included in a show. It will be displayed on a vintage quilt rack - such fun I had shopping at CaSh Creek in Grant, Nebraska. This quilt is called Mirrored Jewels - because of the name of the quilting pattern and the shape and colors used in the quilt.
I decided that I needed a chair to display my pillow so found this vintage chair and covered the seat with fabrics used in the show - a way to tie it all together. I call it "Cinnamon Sticks", connecting the colors and the shape.
