Almost ready for the uv clear coat

1/23/2017

The mosaic process is done.  The heart is waiting at the local auto body shop for the UV clear coat.  It seems the Mod Podge is still a little tacky, maybe due to the drying conditions in our garage.  Steve K has taken his time in completion of the project, for which I am very grateful.  They will test the sample I have prepared, possibly today, to make sure his coating doesn't do "bad things" to my artwork.  All in due time.  Then the heart will go to Pinnacle Bank - Ogallala to showcase for about 3 weeks before heading to Lincoln for installation.

Some have asked how the lightweight (somewhat) sculpture will withstand Nebraska winds.  The sculpture maker has created a base that fits inside the Nebraska base.  It will be filled with sand bags and then screwed to the sculpture base.

As of yet, no decision has been made as to location.  When the heart is ready, the sponsor will pick the location.

Time has gone quickly - from December 6th until today, my garage has been my studio.  Today we take the heart to Ogallala to Steve's Body and Paint for its auto body UV clear coat.  Then it will be at Pinnacle Bank Ogallala until February 21st when it will travel across our great state to Lincoln for display.  In October it will be auctioned off and placed at its forever home.  What an adventure!  Thanks to all who cared and supported me.  DeeAnn Tatum was such a wonderful creative partner in this project.

Laying out some small log cabin blocks - they match the large one on the back - in a field and furrows pattern.  My signature block will go where Perkins County is located.  You can see the small red rectangle. i was also trying to determine what hue to paint the sides of the base.

Ready to go. I am getting so excited and have been so lucky that my creative assistant, DeeAnn Tatum, has been such a wonderful presence in this project.  She is an incredibly insightful person.

The process began on Sunday, December 11th.  DeeAnn Tatum came down and we worked to get the project going. Steve helped as we made sure that the corgi fit the sculpture.  By luck and planning it worked.  Certainly a happy accident of sorts.

A quick overview of how the corgi came to life

So excited that the heart has arrived.  Life has been so crazy that I haven't gotten started actually creating on the sculpture.  That doesn't mean that I haven't been running many processes through my mind.  Almost ready to start.  Hopefully this weekend.
